Equatorial Guinea is the only spanish speaking country in Africa. They are under a dictatorship ruled by Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. The country is about the size of Hawaii. Their capital city of Malabo is on an island. Formerly the colony of Spanish Guinea, its post-independence name evokes its location near both the equator and the Gulf of Guinea. Since the mid-1990s, Equatorial Guinea has become one of sub-Sahara's largest oil producers. With a population of 650,702, it is the richest country per capita in Africa.
